What is LoRaWAN?

diagramm lora.png

Tracking technologies are evolving rapidly, and the choice depends on specific needs and challenges.

Radiobjella GEN4+ uses LTE-M and NB-IoT for communication.

For example, LTE-M provides higher speed and is more power efficient compared to NB-IoT .

NB-IoT is good at range and penetration in remote areas at the expense of bandwidth.

LoRaWAN, a network designed for long-distance data transmission, is the perfect solution for areas with limited or no IoT coverage.

THE CHALLENGE OF TRACKING AND SOLUTIONS WITH LoRaWAN

Limited mobile coverage

Dense forests and uneven terrain can interfere with mobile signals to Radiobjella.

Long range
in LoRaWAN communication

LoRaWAN ensures stable communication even in inaccessible landscapes where the unit may lose its signal.

No mobile coverage

In remote grazing areas, reliable traditional coverage may be lacking.

Set up your own LoRaWAN networks

Build LoRaWAN coverage to ensure better connectivity in remote areas.

Frequent battery replacement with limited device access

Inconvenient to change batteries frequently when animals are free to graze.

Low energy consumption
and long battery life

LoRaWAN ensures efficient energy consumption and long battery life.

NB! LoRaWAN is not a complete alternative to mobile networks, and use must be agreed with Telespor for best results.

EXAMPLE OF COVERAGE MAP

Below is an example of a coverage map, where you can compare the efficiency of LoRaWAN and IoT networks.

An example of a map showing how LoraWAN technology can expand internet coverage in areas where there is no classic Telenor coverage.

Blue (IoT) and orange (LoRa) areas indicate the coverage level for each of the networks.

Terms of Purchase & Preparation

Purchase Terms for units with LoRaWAN License

  • When purchasing 150+ units with a LoRaWAN license, Telespor will provide you with the equipment for a complete base station.

  • For multiple base stations, we follow a customized matrix based on agreement.

The supervision and maintenance of the base station are your (or your grazing team’s) responsibility.

  • Telespor owns the base station and the network

  • Telespor provides free replacement parts in case of defects, unless the damage is caused by you.

Steps to Apply for LoRaWAN Connectivity:

  • Have a map ready for your grazing areas.

  • Mark key areas to prioritize coverage.

  • Specify the number of units you plan to use with LoRaWAN for tracking in the area.
